I love Beth's prompts. Here’s my Tiny Winter Poems 2026
Day 1 - Built
I built a life I loved
Earthquakes shattered it
My structure fell
Before my eyes
Amongst the rubble
I cried
I fell apart
How could something so beautiful
No longer be
In time I gathered some of the rubble
Fitting mismatched pieces
From mangled remains
Resembling the old
But with fresh design
From wiser mind
Then fire raged
Burned it all down
Again
There were but ashes
I screamed
Rolling around enraged
Light grey dust layered
Coating my sorrow
Why?
Why not? Came the reply
Fuck you
I rise again
You can shatter my world
But you will never beat me
I rise again.
Day 2 - DEMANDED
She walks into the room
Everything about her demands attention
8 years old
Centre of my universe
And she knows it
Cartwheels fly
"are you watching?"
"of course" I say glancing up at her
"No you weren't"
She stamps a foot
Looking sulky she tells me to watch again.
I take a deep breath and sigh
I have watched her do 12 cartwheels
5 handstands
7 handstands with attempts to walk on hands
Numerous bridges and kick overs
She's even flipped into the dog bed
His foam memory mattress
The perfect crash mat
But I missed that one cartwheel
And she noticed
And now she has demanded
I look again
With full attention
Who am I to not give it to her?
One day she will be grown
It won't be my attention she demands
But someone else's
It is exhausting
It is a privilege
I wouldn't have it any other way.
Day 3 - CARRIED
For 9 months I carried her
But a speck of stardust
In the beginning
A sprinkle of magic
And there she was
I carried this soul
Inside me
Indescribable emotion and awe
I wish I could go back
Carry that small miracle
Again
Appreciate it more
Be less busy
Whilst we were so connected
We talk sometimes
About when she was in my womb
The places she has been
Of which she has no outside awareness
We looked at a photo
Just last week
I was working with my last clients
Before her birth
I will never forget
That warm sunny day
In South Devon
3 horses at a rescue centre
Incredible sessions
So moving
"And I am there"
She says pointing to my tummy in wonder
"Yes you are"
She was there feeling it all too
We talk about how she rode horses
How she swam in the sea
Travelled over Dartmoor
Sitting with the feral herds
Whilst I carried her
Sometimes it stops me in my tracks
Thinking about the miracle
That tiny spark
That somehow is now
A spicy 8 year old
I carried her
She is the best thing I have ever done
Forever grateful to my body
For all its troubles
I carried her
Now, at times, she carries me.
