The sea was beautiful yesterday. Moody, misty with waves to jump and dive under.
Yesterday was my third Chill North Devon swim at Saunton Sands. It was so different to the previous two times. Last week there was a North Westerly wind and it was biting, it makes it harder to get out the water and warm up! Once in the water the wind can't get you at least, it's good encouragement to get in quickly! The first week was much calmer seas and very little breeze.
We had a bit of a breeze, but it was warm, and some brilliant waves!! I've written before about what the sea brings depending on its mood, sometimes a blissful calm floating session looking up to the sky and watching butterflies fly by, other times waves whose noise hits all the senses, and with them often comes much laughter and joy as we jump and swim through them!
I love the waves. I stand watching them move inwards. In awe when what looks like a solid wall of water folds in and crashes past me. The noise engulfs my whole being, every sense is taken. Yet to dive under these unrelenting waves there is a gentle peace, silence, calm.
Sometimes we just need to go with the flow rather than fight it, but at other times we need to let it all out and rage with the waves and that's ok.
I can't help but think of the waves as life advice! We need to stand up for ourselves, and the storm will pass, nothing is permanent. We also need to allow and go with it, calm will follow. Knowing when to do what can be the hard part - sometimes the waves will knock you off your feet, but we recover.
The waves allow it all. ๐
